The 34-year-old, who has played for Mansfield Town, Manchester City, Charlton Athletic, Dundee United and Burnley, was released by Sheffield Wednesday last summer before being snapped up by Derek McInnes on a short-term deal as cover for Jamie Langfield.

The former England U21 international has played twice for the Dons, coming on as a substitute against Celtic at Pittodrie and starting against Hearts at Tynecastle.

Aberdeen's 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock at the weekend put them second in the Scottish Premiership, 13 points behind runaway leaders Celtic.
