The Dons centre-half picked up the problem in training and a scan confirmed he would be able to play no further part in the campaign, missing the games against Celtic on Saturday, Dundee United on Tuesday and Motherwell the following Sunday.

The Scottish League Cup winners also lost midfielder Nicky Low for the season last week after picking up a foot injury.

Manager Derek McInnes, who was named the PFA Scotland Premiership manager of the year at the weekend, has already booked a place in the Europa League qualifying round two with his team by ensuring a top-three top-flight finish.
