Have to say I agree with gunner14 & chisty84. The press has a tendency to nurse their favourites and no matter what, go for the jugular of certain managers at the slightest sign of weakness. Its ridiculous when you look at the petty agenda of some people considering what Wenger has done for the club. You can have a moan about 8 years not winning a trophy, but I'm fully aware when Spurs last won the league and the roster of managers we've gone through trying to reach the CL promised land. You've basically got to love your club and support through thick and thin or you might as well go support someone else.

My mistake, gunner14. I must have imagined the deafening boos after the Swansea game and last Saturday. Similarly, my eyes are clearly deceiving me when I see more and more empty seats for Arsenal home games. As for TalkSport, if you feel they are victimising or witch-hunting your club and its manager, don't listen to it. As far as the media making up a two year contract that doesn't exist, time will tell. Just because Wenger throws his toys out of the pram this week doesn't mean it isn't true. Two days after an embarrassing cup defeat and a day before an absolute roasting from Bayern is not the best time to discuss a new contract. Maybe he felt embarrassed to be rewarded for abject failings.

@ gooner, er, think you may have missed the 'subtle' sarcasm of my comment there, however, completely agree with your sentiment, good man!

@bfmcc in some points i agree but i would go back to your research and see how much we have gained through selling players! So we arent actually spending much. I do agree with the point also about Wengers wage etc.

Chisty84 - Arsenal have spent £105m in the transfer market in the last 18 months, hardly comparable to Newcastle and Villa I think. Look at the deloitte figures for premier league wage budgets. Arsenal's wage budget is considerably larger than teams such as Spurs, Everton, Newcastle, Villa. These are the facts. Arsenal have been finishing exactly where they should be finishing (By the skin of their teeth I might add) and it is actually teams like Everton and Spurs who have been punching above their weight. This view that Wenger has been financially hamstrung is a complete fallacy. Even if it were true, it doesn't explain some of Arsenal's diabolically bad results in recent years (Bradford, Blackburn, AC Milan, Swansea, 8-2 against Man U etc.). Most sources suggest Wenger is currently being paid over £7m a year (Which is more than Ferguson), which at a supposedly cash-strapped club seems outrageous and completely unjustifiable. Perhaps you should consider some of these facts. Instead of going on about Arsenal's lack of funds to try and explain your club's lack of trophies in the last 8 years, perhaps you should consider Arsene's perennial failure to sort your defence out, adapt the team's playing style, buy a good goalie and his persistence with rubbish and injury prone players etc etc etc.

dazo 1975...I attend games so lets put that 1 to bed....so no witch hunt...tell me, how does making up a story about a 2 year contract extension hold him to account for the way the team is playing? How do the actions of a radio station that constantly ridicules the man, the team and the club contribute to holding him account for the poor team performance?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Witch-hunt?? This is no witch-hunt. The team isn't performing and the media (and the fans who attend the games) are holding him to account because of it. Like all bad losers (Ferguson is exactly the same), Wenger doesn't like being scrutinised when things don't go his way (although to be fair, who does). Give it a few weeks and he'll be banning journalists from press conferences just like Ferguson. You've got to take the rough with the smooth. Nobody at Arsenal - staff or fans - were complaining when the media were constantly waxing lyrical about the beautiful football they play.

The Wenger witch hunt is now like a runaway train. I'm no Wenger apologist but the constant criticism of one of the best managers to grace the English game is tantamount to bullying now. I don't know why the media are out to get him but they obviously are. What I don't understand is why Arsenals lack of a trophy for the last 7 years bothers anyone else but Arsenal fans....why would anyone else care? Ashton is a tool of a journalist and didn't like it when someone bit back at his false story, then went running to his mates at TalkSport yesterday evening. Typical bullying coward like behaviour, pick on someone, they bite back and then go running for back up. Arsenal should, as a club, ban these idiot journalists like Fergie does, and we should definitley ban TakSport from the Emirates as their anti Arsenal agenda is evident from 6am until 7pm every day.
