The Gunners boss has been criticised in some quarters for a lack of summer transfer activity - and a 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa on the opening day of the new Premier League season hardly helped his cause.

He has, however, offered the perfect response to those critics, with a 3-1 victory at Craven Cottage on Saturday coming on the back of an impressive win away at Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.

Wenger feels his side looked something close to their best against Fulham, with in-form Olivier Giroud grabbing the opening goal before Lukas Podolski netted either side of half-time.

He told the club's official website: "We adapted our style of play a bit today but we were very dangerous every time we won the ball back. It was impressive because we had a good mixture of patience and speed in our game and that was positive today.

"I changed the shape of our team today because I rested Jack (Wilshere). We played with four defenders and six offensive players so we had to make it tighter with numbers, but of course when we had the ball we were always looking dangerous."

Wenger and Arsenal have a return date with Fenerbahce to prepare for on Tuesday but, as they hold a 3-0 advantage in that clash, focus can be turned back to the pursuit of fresh faces.

Wenger insists Yohan Cabaye's absence from Newcastle United's squad for a home date with West Ham United is not the result of a second approach from the Gunners, but concedes that he is hoping to bolster his ranks before a home date with arch-rivals Tottenham rolls around on 1st September.

Asked if he expects to strengthen before Arsenal next take to the field, he added: "Before next weekend? It's possible.

"Honestly, I'm not the only one that can decide that because the clubs who sell the players [are involved too].

"We are on the market, you know that. I know you expect news from us. We will try to give you some but at the moment, nothing to announce."

s it the same people that complain about Chelsea that complain about Mayweather? You should by now know what to expect from both, if you can't appreciate how good they are at nullifying their opponents then don't watch them.

do concede though, that getting rid of Luiz has made them less entertaining. In the same way that driving with both eyes open is less exciting, but probably a good idea.
