The Blues' player of the season for successive years has made just one appearance this term and was left out of the side to face Manchester United on Monday.

Speculation over his future intensified with reports that his father, who is also his agent, was spotted at Arsenal but Mourinho says the Spaniard is happy at Stamford Bridge - as he is to have him.

"He didn't play against Man United, it was my option. I have always reasons for the options," said Mourinho, speaking ahead of Friday's European Super Cup clash with Bayern Munich.

"I feel that it's my duty to explain to the players the reasons for my options - and I do.

"I don't feel it's my duty to explain to the media the reason for my options. I don't always do (it).

"Everything is clear between me and the player. We have no problems.

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!

Probably. But presumably he would not swap one bench for another. We have mails on over-hyped players, Arsenal enthusiasm, UEFA, FIFA and naked dudes...
