The 22-year-old started 11 league games for Arsenal last season, but he is now looking for a complete campaign in the Bundesliga.

Coquelin had previously had a spell on loan in his native France with Lorient, but he admits he turned down the chance to go back.

"I had the opportunity to join Lorient in the summer and I thought about it but finally I chose Freiburg because I wanted to discover something new," he told FranceFootball.

"My future? I am only focused on Freiburg so far. I put Arsenal aside. My priority is to play as often as possible."

Coquelin revealed that it was his decision to seek a loan move.

"At first, I expressed my need to play more often to Arsene Wenger and to play a whole season," he said.

"Last season was difficult notably due to injuries that stopped my impetus. Wenger was very comprehensive. I wanted to discover a new league and the Freiburg's officials' words attracted me."

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
