The 18-year-old German youth international has forced his way into Arsenal's first team this year, and his progress has been rewarded with a new four-and-a-half year contract.

Gnabry, who joined Arsenal from Stuttgart in 2011 when he turned 16, puts all the credit down to Wenger for his progress.

"I am very happy. I know the manager (Arsene Wenger) is fully on the side of young players and that I will be handed a proper chance at this club," he told kicker-Sportmagazin.

"And that's exactly how things went for me. In everyday life Mr Wenger is very much down-to-earth.

"He is very often talking to me and he is pointing me into the right direction.

"It's a fact that it's only me to decide my future progress. It will be all about my future performance and my future conduct."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
