Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger sees Oxlade-Chamberlain plying his trade in a central midfield role in the long term rather than as a winger.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is hoping to line up for England at the World Cup, looks up to Gerrard and admits training with the Liverpool midfielder has helped to improve him as a player.

"Stevie is a sensational player and one of my all-time favourites," Oxlade-Chamberlain told The Sun.

"I can take so much of what he does. That is my job - to try and get to a similar standard.

"That is easier said than done, but being able to train with him improves me as a player.

"It would be great to be selected for the World Cup but you have to work hard. That means I have to keep playing well for Arsenal."
