Villa, who entertain West Ham on Sunday, are currently in 19th spot and have won only four league games this season.
Lambert has been encouraged by Villa's recent performances, including last weekend's 3-3 draw at Everton, but is aware of the need to start putting points on the board.
The Scot said: "Have I a points target in mind? I know how many games we need to win and that's the thing we have to go and do.
"If we keep doing the things we are doing, we will win more than we don't.
"I would say we need to win five or six games. It depends because you don't know what other teams are going to do, but I don't concern myself with other teams.
"You've got to focus on your own team. You've got no influence or control over other results."
Lambert is adamant the R-word is not mentioned by him or his players, and retains the belief Villa will escape the drop.
He said: "We never speak about it (relegation) to be honest. I think that's because of the belief we will get out of it.
"Everyone is focused on getting out of it and we'll do that to the end.
"The spirit is good and that's testament to the players, even though we've had some heavy knocks. They've kept their heads up."
Lambert is aware of the need for Villa to stop conceding goals from set-pieces and it again proved costly at Goodison Park when they let in a late equaliser.
He said: "You can't have a blame culture and say it's your midfield or defence who have made mistakes.
"The second goal we let in was soft. The third goal came from a corner and the amount of times Marouane Fellaini has done that in his Everton career is many.
"We're a threat, there's no doubt about it. Going forward we can create, definitely, but we have got to defend better as a team."
