Villa have yet to secure their Premier League status with just one more fixture remaining on their 2012/13 calendar.

A 2-1 defeat to Chelsea on Saturday means they could still be overhauled by 18th-placed Wigan Athletic - if the Latics were to win their last two matches.

Villa are due to face the Latics at the DW Stadium on Sunday in what could be a make-or-break encounter.

Vlaar is, however, adamant that Paul Lambert's side will enter that contest in optimistic mood if they are still sweating on their top-flight status.

He said: "In the last few months we have only lost against top-six teams and beaten all the teams around us.

"If you look through the season, the confidence is a lot better. The way we play is better.

"We were right on top at one stage during the Chelsea game. We definitely deserved some points."

xcellent! Not sure if he is any good as a manager (never thought about it) but the 'headbutt in the technical area' and what he said to Pelligrini were just brilliant, it was as if he was trying to recreate the end of the Alan Partridge Xmas special when Alan punched a man in a wheelchair and verbally abused Tony Heirs.
