Lambert takes his Villa side to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Wednesday well aware that their last journey to the same ground ended in an embarrassing 8-0 defeat.

That was the club's heaviest ever top flight loss, and marked the lowest point of a season of almost constant struggle against relegation.

The Scotsman has thanked American Lerner for sticking by him through such performances, believing that such support has helped the club and manager.

"I speak to Randy every week anyway and he's always really supportive," Lambert said.

"I spoke to him the other night after the Arsenal win. He probably says one thing to me and then goes and vomits somewhere else.

"He's been great to me, he really has and that's what you need, that support."

Villa will go to the top of the Premier League table with a draw at Stamford Bridge, sitting ahead of Chelsea on goals scored.

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
