On Saturday they beat Norwich 1-0 at Carrow Road, having also won away on the opening day of the season at Arsenal.

In between there were defeats against Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle - the last two of these on home turf.

Lambert believes his side have faced a difficult run of fixtures, not to mention the upheaval of bedding in their pre-season signings.

New boys Libor Kozak, Aleksandar Tonev, Leandro Bacuna, Nicklas Helenius and Antonio Luna all played some part in Saturday's triumph in Norfolk.

And the Villa boss said: "It was disappointing last weekend against Newcastle but I am delighted we bounced back this weekend very strongly.

"The start to the season we had was extremely tough with three of the top sides and we ran them very close, beating one of them.

"The new lads will take time to adapt but so far they have been excellent for us."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
