Given, who still has three years on his Villa contract, has found himself dropped to third choice behind Brad Guzan and Jed Steer under boss Paul Lambert.
It has left Given looking at his options for when he does decide to bring the curtain down on his playing career.
"I would give more to developing goalkeepers than outfield players, and probably get more respect from the goalkeeping fraternity," Given told the Birmingham Mail.
"But I have the badges to complete and then I'll decide. I definitely want to stay in the game. It is still a massive part of my life and I think I have something to give back.
"Plus you still can't beat the every-day involvement in the dressing room, and I'd miss the banter."
