El Ahmadi: Delph deserves call

Karim El Ahmadi feels his fellow Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph is deserving of an England call-up.

Fabian Delph: Hoping to earn senior international recognition

Delph has been capped at Under-21 level, but fell off the international radar after enduring a difficult start to his Villa Park career.

The 23-year-old is now very much back on track, with his ball-winning and ball-playing abilities catching the eye.

A first senior outing for the Three Lions has been mooted, but Delph was overlooked by Roy Hodgson when naming his latest squad.

El Ahmadi is surprised to see the former Leeds United man on the outside of the fold, with it his opinion that Delph is among the finest all-round midfielders in the Premier League.

The Moroccan told the Birmingham Mail: "You have a lot of good players in the squad but if I see all the players I've played against in England, he can be one of them.

"He is always the first at the club and always the last to leave, so his hunger can achieve that. If he keeps his quality, it's only a matter of time.

"I'm not the manager and I don't know how it works with the English squad, but he has the quality.

"Here in England he is a big player and a big talent. He is still young and was unlucky with injuries before and if he didn't have them then maybe he'd already be with the England squad. He has a great future in front of him.

"He's one of the best players in the team."

El Ahmadi added: "As a player I always look at the players who play a little bit like me.

"He is very technical and what he has - what a lot of technical players don't have - is that hunger and power to get the ball.

"If you see him on the pitch and how he makes tackles to get the ball back, it makes you extra motivated. It makes it much easier for me and he is the total package.

"When I came to Villa Park, my first impression was I thought he was the best player."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
