It seemed as though the trio had made their last appearances for the club after being cast aside by Lambert as The Villans struggled last season.

Bent was allowed to join Fulham on-loan, where he struggled to hold down a first-team spot, Hutton spent the end of the campaign at Championship side Bolton, while N'Zogbia has been training with the youth team since returning from injury.

However, all three could feature in Lambert's plans for next season, with the former Norwich manager seemingly keen to give his whole squad a chance.

"Everyone is even now, everyone is level," Lambert told the Daily Mirror.

"It is publicly known what is happening. Everyone is on a level playing field."

alcao really needs to shine now. Apparently according to the stats, he scores more when played up front alone. I wonder if Van Gaal will actually apply a formation to get the best out of him though.
