Millers manager Steve Evans has made the forward his fifth summer signing a day after netting former Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot as he prepares for life in the Sky Bet Championship.

Bowery, 22, has signed a two-year deal and Evans said: “We are delighted to sign him, we have been very patient on this deal and thankfully we were able to persuade Jordan that his future lies in Rotherham.

“I am thankful to Paul Lambert at Aston Villa for the kind words he said about Rotherham United and we are just delighted to have got the deal over the line and have young Jordan come on board.”

Bowery began his career at Chesterfield before moving to Villa in 2012.

“He forced himself into the starting line-up for a number of weeks before the end of last season," Evans said. "I watched one of those matches live and of course I have seen him on a number of other occasions.

“He excited everyone when he was at Chesterfield when he broke through as a young kid and then he got the wonderful opportunity to play at Aston Villa.

"He has been at two good clubs and he has the opportunity to join a club that is desperately keen to do well in the Championship.”

Bowery's agent Tim Webb admitted that Rotherham moved quickly to conclude the deal which will hopefully allow Jordan more opportunity to play regularly.

"Jordan was very impressed with Steve Evans' enthusiasm and despite leaving the Premiership, was keen to join the club," said Webb.

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
