Lambert handed the 19-year-old his first-team debut in a Carling Cup tie against Tottenham last September, following that with four substitute appearances in the Premier League in the closing stages of a disappointing campaign for the club.

But Robinson, a Villa Academy product, was rewarded with a new two-year contract and is keen for his performances to match Lambert’s trust.

"The season I’ve had, I wouldn’t really have expected," he said. "There were so many positives out of it. To do what I've done and for the gaffer to give me a chance, I've loved every minute of it.

"Any gaffer who gives you your debut is changing your life because you're going into the first team. He watches all the under-21 games and he's been helping me out on the field.

"If I'm not doing it right he'll tell me. He's helped me massively in the last year. He's got faith in me so I've just got to make sure I perform and give it back to him."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
