Oakwell: Barnsley draw up shortlist for new manager

The club have drawn up a shortlist of applicants for the vacant position and have already started the interview process.

Caretaker boss David Flitcroft, who took charge for Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Peterborough following the departure of Keith Hill, was quoted as the 6/4 favourite with Sky Bet on Friday morning to be the next permanent Barnsley manager.

However former Nottingham Forest manager Sean O'Driscoll was later backed into favouritism, while Gary Megson and Neil Redfearn are also prominent in the betting.

A statement from Barnsley read: "The board will seriously assess every aspect of the character they want to bring in to the football club before making a decision.

"It has been said that it is a tradition of Barnsley Football Club to change the manager often, whereas reality suggests prior to Keith Hill's departure there had been only one managerial dismissal in the past six years.

"The board has stated it is imperative that, as a club, they realign themselves with the supporters. Barnsley Football Club need to become more involved in the community - an area in which it appears to have taken a backwards step over the past couple of years.

"The board are hopeful of making an appointment prior to the Leeds United fixture on January 12."

terling needs to be told though that upon entering the Arsenal squad he will re-enact the final scene from Highlander where he will be thrown around a warehouse by cartoon dragons and then be a mere mortal that will only ever spend three to four weeks a season playing football and the rest on the physio's bed. There can be only one.....player available at The Emirates.

he game changed in our favour when Carrick came on. We were able to play further up the pitch due to having a player who can give and go with the ball and keep possession. Yet barkley made some runs and Townsend scored a good goal but carrick's inclusion and chiellini's withdrawal made the biggest difference to the flow of the game

o, you've not silenced anyone Andros, i'm afraid. We know you can score a great goal, and it's really handy to have your direct running and willingness to shoot on the bench. But until you can do the other things expected of a winger (beat the man, put a decent cross in, stay wide etc) then you can't expect more than a regular cameo. Wonderful goal though, what a hit! No wonder Buffon wanted the shirt.
