Paul Digby: Hopes to play after a 17-month absence

The 18-year-old, who recently signed a new four-year contract at Oakwell, burst on to the first-team scene in September 2011, but missed the whole of last season due to a hip injury and a calf strain ruled him out of Saturday's heavy opening-day defeat to Wigan.

"He could return and be in contention for the cup tie with Scunthorpe," said manager David Flitcroft, who has high hopes for the Sheffield-born midfielder.

"The great news is that Diggers has signed a new deal. I'm so delighted he's tied himself to the football club.

"He made his debut for Barnsley at 16, but has suffered a bit through injuries. If we get 100 games on his CV he'll be ready for the big time."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
