Wiseman: I'll show character

Barnsley defender Scott Wiseman admits he will never win the support of every Oakwell fan despite making his 100th appearance for the club.

Wiseman reached the milestone in Friday's draw against Ipswich at Portman Road and the right-back is also now keen to focus on building his international career.

Wiseman has struggled to endear himself to the Oakwell faithful since his arrival from Rochdale in 2011 but remains determined to let his football do the talking.

Barnsley, who narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of last season, are languishing in the drop zone once again but the defender is eager to win over the supporters with his character.

"I don't think I'll ever win everybody round but I think I've turned the corner," he told the Barnsley Chronicle. "It was a difficult time last Christmas.

"My grandma had just died so I was in a low place anyway and then what happened with the fans just compounded it.

"But that's when you have got to show strength of character and come out fighting and I like to think I did that."

Despite playing for England Under 20s, Wiseman recently submitted a request to represent Gibraltar, with family ties in the British overseas territory.

The 28-year-old explained his eligibility to represent Gibraltar and, should the relevant paperwork be passed in time, Wiseman could earn his first international cap as early as this month.

"My grandparents moved out there through work in the 1950s and my mum and uncles were born out there," he added.

"They moved back when my mum was very young but I have been there twice. There's not a lot of history but there is a little bit.

"Now they have got the UEFA standing it's a good opportunity for me to test myself at another level.

"Everything has been sent off and the paperwork's there. They might have a friendly in the next international break [November 10-22] but if not it will be in the New Year."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
