Brek Shea: Back at Stoke and looking for game time

The United States international is currently back at the Britannia Stadium after returning early from a stint at Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley.

He did not enjoy the best of times at Oakwell, with an angry confrontation with supporters following a 5-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town leading him back to the Potters.

The 24-year-old winger, who signed for Stoke from FC Dallas in January 2013, claims he is willing to fight for a place in Mark Hughes' plans if given an opportunity to compete for a regular role.

He has, however, found first-team opportunities hard to come by and acknowledges that he may need to look elsewhere for game time if he is to take in a trip to Brazil this summer.

On the end of his stint at Barnsley and his plans for the future, Shea said in The Sentinel: "I had an altercation with a gentleman and I think the fans took it that I had a go at the club, but I was only frustrated with one guy. I'm over that and happy to be back at Stoke.

"At the time I was upset, but now I've left it behind me. I can't really change what happened.

"The passion of the fans over here is crazy, in a good way, but when things don't go their way they are upset with their players and that can get out of hand.

"I've had a lot of experiences, whether good or bad, and I've got to learn from them.

"Hopefully I can earn a spot in this team. I have to keep my head down, work hard and hope I get my chance.

"I have to show the gaffer I am good enough to play."

On the possibility of heading out on loan again, Shea added: "I need to be playing for the World Cup. I really want to go because I enjoy playing for my country."

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
