Lee Clark: Brought Amari'i Bell back to St Andrew's

The 19-year-old left-back joined the high-flying Skrill Premier club on a youth loan in the summer and was due to remain until January.

He made a total of 19 league starts during the stint, the latest of which came in Saturday's 1-0 victory at Hereford.

But Blues boss Lee Clark has been forced to recall the talented youngster after Mitch Hancox sustained a knee injury in the latter stages of Birmingham's 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough in the Championship on Saturday.

Hancox was replaced in injury time by Kyle Bartley, who duly headed home a last-gasp leveller, and is currently awaiting news on the extent of the problem.

It is the second time Bell has been recalled to St Andrew's this season, with the teenager returning in late September only to be allowed to go back to Nuneaton a week later.

Meanwhile, teenage winger Demarai Gray has signed his first professional contract at Birmingham.

The 17-year-old is the latest Academy graduate at St Andrew's to be handed pro terms having progressed through the ranks at the Midlands outfit, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Birmingham-born Gray has been with the club since the age of seven and made his first-team bow as a late substitute in a 4-0 Championship victory over Millwall in October.

He was then introduced as a first-half substitute at Derby before making his full Blues debut in last month's 1-0 home defeat to Charlton.

Gray has so far made a total of five appearances for Birmingham this term.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
