Thomas is a free agent after turning down a new deal at Championship new boys Rotherham last month.

A number of Championship sides are thought to have expressed an interest in Thomas, but Birmingham are in pole position to land the 27-year-old.

Blues boss Lee Clark has been looking to bolster his squad with free transfers and Thomas is set to become the latest new arrival at St Andrew's.

Thomas enjoyed a spell on loan at Birmingham in the second half of the 2012/13 camapaign, scoring three goals in 11 appearances.
