Henning Berg: Promotion push

Rovers have taken a solitary point from their last four outings and have tasted victory once in the eight games since Berg was installed as Steve Kean's successor.

Friday night's 4-1 reverse against leaders Cardiff at Ewood Park left Blackburn 15 points from the summit before Saturday's results dumped them to 13th position - four points off the play-off places.

"The target is still promotion," said Berg. "Of course we have put ourselves in maybe a more difficult position than we would have liked, there is no doubt about that.

"A few weeks ago we were looking to build on the Huddersfield and the Peterborough performances and we were not able to do that.

"We are assessing things as we go on and we will make sure that we do the right things in the future - improving the team, improving the squad, making sure we put us in a position where we can be promoted.

"No one has ever said anything about it being easy and we just have to make sure that we keep our heads and are doing the right things."

And Berg pointed towards the nature of Rovers' defeat to Cardiff - where two late goals for the visitors added some gloss to the scoreline - as evidence that his team are not far from turning the corner.

"Yes we are disappointed with some of the performances (but) at the same time we are not a million miles away," he added. "We played the league leaders in a tight and even game football-wise, which ended not an even game in terms of the result.

"It's not that many things that we need to do better in order to win football matches."
