Berg - Robinson staying put

Henning Berg has played down speculation over Paul Robinson's Blackburn future after dropping the goalkeeper for last week's defeat to Blackpool.

Jake Kean was given the nod to start ahead of Robinson, who was benched for the first time in the Championship this season, prompting talk of a move away from Ewood Park in January for the 33-year-old.

"To be fair there's not that much to talk about," said Rovers boss Berg. "He's played every game this season apart from the Blackpool game.

"I made the change for that game. There is competition for places with the goalkeepers and every other position on the pitch - that is a normal thing for every football team in the world.

"He's got a contract here for a few more years and I assume that when he signed the contract he wanted to stay here for those years. There's no guarantees in football that you'll be number one every year and for so many years.

"There is competition for places and I don't think it's that difficult. Everybody has to accept that and everybody has to fight and compete."

Asked whether he would consider offers for Robinson when the transfer window opens, Berg was again dismissive.

He added: "I haven't thought that far. He is a goalkeeper here. Like I said, he's played every game this season apart from one.

"To suddenly start saying 'he's going to leave' and all that I think is very, very sudden. I think it's not the right thing to do.

"There will be competition for places, there is competition for every place in this team and that's the way it should be."
