Rovers went through five different managers last season - with Bowyer twice taking temporary charge - but having been asked to step into the main job with a 12-month rolling contract the 41-year-old wants to calm things down.

Asked whether he had any reservations about accepting the offer from owners Venky's, he said: "You mean am I crazy?

"It was a no brainer for me, I had to take this opportunity.

"I have been at the club for a long time and I've seen the success over the years and I know what the foundations of that success were.

"I enjoyed it last season and I want to crack on now.

"As long as I keep winning matches I'll stay in the job. Nothing has changed in the demands required.

"The owners spoke with me and made their plans quite clear in terms of what's expected.

"If we can have a bit of patience that would be great but we know we're in a results business so the patience will last through the summer and come August it will be gone.

"It was well documented what went on last year and we have to learn from it.

"All I can do is do what we did last year and that was to focus on the football - I can't control what happens off the pitch."

In December 2012 Bowyer, who has been at the club nine years in various roles, took over as caretaker manager after Henning Berg's eight-week spell in charge and guided the team to three wins and a draw after a run of just one win in 10 matches under the Norwegian.

However, he was not considered for the permanent job which was given to Michael Appleton, who lasted just over two months before Bowyer's services were required again.

His record for last season saw him win six and draw four of his 13 matches in charge, averaging almost two points per game.

And while they finished closer to the npower Championship relegation zone (four points) than the play-offs (10) Bowyer insists promotion has to be their challenge.

"We can stand here and set targets but we'll do that with the players but ultimately everyone's dream is to get into the Premier League so that is where we aim for," he added.

"We weren't far off the play-offs and that is something we have to build on.

"We need the honest players coming in who will work very hard for this club."

m only commenting on this (I don't care about Liverpool) because F365's twitter said I had call Matt Stanger a tw*t (which I don't agree with anyway) but I just wanted to be the first. Am I the first?

Trial And Error Rather Than Transition

S

unday, Sunday. Will there be a fan of either team, who if they are winning after 80 mins, won't still be nervous? This could be anything from 0-0 to 5-5, and no one would bat an eye.
