Emerton spent nine years at Ewood Park - all of them in the Premier League - before returning to Australia in 2011.

He still follows Rovers' fortunes closely and cannot comprehend the chaotic state of a club that used to be so stable but found itself appointing four managers last season alone.

"It is a shame," said Emerton, who will be skippering the A-League All Stars in their high-profile friendly against Manchester United in Sydney on Saturday.

"I spent nine good years at the club so to see them in the position they are in at the moment is hard."

Emerton accepts it was not always serene during his time at the proud Lancashire outfit - but he experienced nothing like the knee-jerk manner of last term's events.

"It is chaotic," he said. "A change of manager at any stage of the season is always difficult. To have four in one year is unheard of.

"During my nine seasons, we had our fair share of relegation battles.

"Even under Graeme Souness in the first years that I signed we didn't do particularly well.

"Under the Mark Hughes era we were a mid-table club and towards the end it all fell off again, so I had plenty of ups and downs.

"But it is not nice to see them in the position they are in at the moment.

"I have fond memories from my time there and still keep an eye on their progress.

"Hopefully they can regroup and get themselves back in the Premier League in the years to come."

m only commenting on this (I don't care about Liverpool) because F365's twitter said I had call Matt Stanger a tw*t (which I don't agree with anyway) but I just wanted to be the first. Am I the first?

S

unday, Sunday. Will there be a fan of either team, who if they are winning after 80 mins, won't still be nervous? This could be anything from 0-0 to 5-5, and no one would bat an eye.
