The 19-year-old joined the Spireites in July on an initial one-month deal but his performance in pre-season and on the opening day of the League Two campaign against Bury on Saturday have led to Blues boss Paul Cook prolonging his stay at the Proact Stadium.

"He's deserves it. He's a young player who will make mistakes but the games he's been involved in he's been outstanding," Cook told reporters ahead of his side's Capital One Cup tie at Leeds on Wednesday night.

Edwards partnered Sam Hird at the centre of defence for the 2-0 win at Bury and the pair are in line to continue their roles at Elland Road with Ian Evatt and Liam Cooper still short of match fitness.

Meanwhile, Cook confirmed that Hamza Bencherif has left the club. The midfielder, a free agent after being released by Notts County this summer, had been on trial with the Spireites.

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
