The 22-year-old, who came through the ranks at the KC Stadium, has played in 20 games and scored twice for Rovers during a loan spell which is due to expire in January, but the Sky Bet Championship club are keen to keep him beyond that period.

However, to do so they will have to go back to the negotiation table after the Tigers dismissed their initial advances.

A spokesman for Hull said: "I can confirm that we have rejected a bid for Tom Cairney."

The midfielder has not started a game for Steve Bruce's side since January.
