A meeting with Premier League title challengers offered Rovers an opportunity to mark where they are in their efforts to return to the top flight.

If their FA Cup third round showing on home soil was anything to go by, then they are firmly on the right track.

Rovers gave as good as they got against City, despite falling behind to Alvaro Negredo's opener on the stroke of half-time.

Skipper Scott Dann hauled Blackburn level early in the second half and Bowyer admits an eye-catching display could have been rewarded with a winner - which City could have had few complaints about.

Bowyer told Radio Rovers: "It might be a bit greedy but we could have nicked it at the end.

"I have nothing but praise and pride for this group, it was a terrific performance against a world class team.

"The players are a joy to the football club at the moment. They've really restored some pride, the supporters can go away happy with that.

"We are pleased with how we went about it and how the players responded to going behind. The ages of some of them, it is terrific for them to play in that environment, hopefully it is a motivation for them.

"The fans pay their money and what they want to see is people having a go and working hard, and they certainly saw that today from them."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
