Despite twice falling behind to goals from Pierre Mingoia and James Gray, Rovers pegged back their lower-league opponents with efforts from veteran David Dunn and Tom Cairney.

"The work-out itself was useful," the Rovers boss told the club's official website.

"We trained them hard this week and we knew that going into the game that it would be tough for them and so it proved because Accrington did well.

"We are pleased with certain aspects of the game but you always look for better.

"Some players' timings are nearly there, whilst others are a little bit off, that is all part of pre-season, we just keep going and getting better.

"We've got to make sure that people recover and go again ready for Saturday at Bradford now."

Blackburn kick-off their 2014/15 Championship campaign against Cardiff at Ewood Park on Friday, August 8.
