Oyston: Blackpool lead the way

Chairman Karl Oyston insists Blackpool are the model club when it comes to handling players' agents.

In September, it was revealed the Seasiders spent nothing at all on agents' fees during the previous season, while fellow Sky Bet Championship rivals Blackburn spent over £3million.

Oyston believes Blackpool are well placed to cope with the forthcoming Financial Fair Play rules and are the envy of other clubs.

"I'm not blowing our own trumpet here, but they all wish they could be like us," Oyston said at a question and answer session with the Blackpool Supporters Association.

"They either don't have the strength of character or control to be able to be like us.

"I'm sure no-one likes dishing three-and-a-half million quid out to agents every year; they can't like it surely?

"They can't possibly enjoy that experience of sending money out of football never to return."

Blackburn's managing director Derek Shaw warned earlier this month that his club could face a transfer embargo under the new FFP regulations due to excessive spending last season.

Oyston expects as many as six clubs could be heading for such a predicament and wants even stricter punishments for those who flout the rules.

"Out of the 24 clubs in the Championship, six won't hit the FFP target," he added.

"They face a transfer embargo if they aren't promoted to the Premier League.

"The teams that are promoted will be fined and the money will be distributed to charity. I think those six either have no intention of complying, or can't because of previous activity.

"The general strength of feeling among Championship clubs is that we need to give the rules more teeth, with higher punishments to the teams that break them."

t's wrong to be making a joke out of Bender's name at the expense of gay people. It's the kind of childish, uncivilised thing that Football365 would deride and ridicule if it was another media outlet saying. Why is there a need for jokes like this? Does it make your writers feel like men? F365 might suggest that I 'lighten up', but it is genuinely traumatic for people who have been oppressed all their lives to be the butt of jokes, and to be told...

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.
