The 30-year-old hitman has rediscovered his best form after returning to Scotland at the start of the season, notching 15 goals so far, and has forced his way back into the Scotland squad.

Such form has seen Boyd heavily linked with a move back south of the border, with Coventry, Nottingham Forest and Blackpool all muted as potential suitors.

However, despite seemingly at ease back in the SPFL, Boyd revealed he has already spoken to boss Allan Johnston about a potential departure.

"I've spoken to the manager about it and told him that, if the opportunity arose for me to go and test myself at a big club or a higher level, then I'm ready to do that," Boyd told the Daily Record

"I'm happy here and I won't force anything to get out. But I can't sit here and say I'll be a Killie player for the rest of my life. It's not in my hands. All I can do is perform well and see what happens in the summer.

"I've already proved I can play at a big club, because you don't get any bigger than Rangers. I have the mentality to play at the highest level.

"A lot of players who are better than me have gone to Ibrox and failed because they didn't have the mentality. I have that."

Despite declaring such adoration for his boyhood club Rangers, Boyd has ruled out a move back to Glasgow.

"At no time have I thought I'd be going back to Rangers," Boyd added.

"I went in to Murray Park to train for a while but I didn't think there was a chance that I'd go back. I had five fantastic years there but it's in the past. In the future I'm not sure.

"The next step is to be getting a start for Scotland."
