The 31-year-old full-back returns to the Macron Stadium following his 13-match stint at the club during the first half of last season.

The Scottish international came through the set-up at Aberdeen and joined Cardiff in 2006. He has made nearly 300 appearances for the Welsh club.

McNaughton has over 500 career appearances and brings a wealth of experience to Dougie Freedman's Bolton side, who are bidding to return to the Barclays Premier League following relegation in 2012.

If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
