Poyet: Warnock a hypocrite

Brighton boss Gus Poyet slammed referee Lee Mason and dubbed opposite boss Neil Warnock "a hypocrite" after Leeds left the south coast with a point.

Craig Mackail-Smith hit a brace, opening the scoring in the first half from the spot, but missed another penalty 15 minutes from time with the game tied at 2-2.

Poyet was already irked by the visitors' first goal, claiming Luke Varney had dived in the box, and felt Michael Brown, whose deflected shot earned Neil Warnock's team a share of the spoils, was lucky to stay on the pitch.

But he saved his wrath first for Mason and then his Whites counterpart.

"The referee was too nice," Poyet said. "He gave a penalty that was not and also kept a player on the pitch who should not have been there, and who then scored the equaliser."

When told Warnock's was certain Varney had been shoved, an angry Poyet added: "He would say that. He is a hypocrite.

"He is on the list of hypocrites now. He's funny, Mr Warnock. Very funny. You cannot go one way only when it suits you.

"Then there is Mr Brown who had a fantastic game but he shouldn't have been on the pitch, and everybody knows that. You cannot be nice if you are refereeing. Everybody talks about the refs but they don't look at themselves.

"It was a decent Leeds team but we didn't do enough to beat them. I hope we get a win soon or I will be pulling out my hair."
