Darren Ferguson's side are in the Championship relegation zone despite having won two of their last three matches, and Poyet knows his team will have to be at their best if they are to secure a first victory in eight.
"Unfortunately they can't keep hold of all their best players," he said. "They always seem to be restarting and that's a problem for any manager.
"But they have an understanding of playing the game and they are always trying to score more goals than the opposition. That makes them a special team to play against and we need to be careful.
"We need to defend well but we need to go and attack them too. It's a totally different game to what we have been playing recently.
"Like any other team in the Championship, they are a difficult team to beat and we need to concentrate on what we do well."
