The former Spain international has managed just one brief appearance for the Seagulls this season due to a thigh tendon injury, but he returned to training with the first team this week.
"He is getting there," said first-team coach Charlie Oatway.
"He started with the development squad and now he's back with us. It's about topping up his fitness and his running patterns.
"The next step for him will be to play in a reserve game. We have got to make sure that we move forward and don't take any steps back.
"It's weird because we are trying to take training slowly with him, but his quality just sticks out. He touches the ball twice and sticks it in the back of the net. His ability is second to none."
