The Spanish defender has been with the Seagulls since January 2010, but will see his current contract expire this summer.

He is one of 11 players at the Amex Stadium set to drop into the free agent pool unless fresh terms are tabled.

Calderon is among those sweating on their future as he has slipped behind countryman Bruno in the right-back pecking order.

The 32-year-old is, however, still enjoying his time in England and hopes to use Brighton's next two fixtures against Barnsley and Leicester City to stake a claim for a new deal - with Bruno serving a suspension.

Calderon told the Argus: "I am really proud to have been here for four-and-a-half years and I would love to be here longer.

"I don't know what is going to happen, because in football you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow.

"I will just try to train perfect, try to get ready for tomorrow and get the three points and then we'll see what happens."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
