Dean Marney scored the only goal of the game against his former club with a clinical finish on 40 minutes, and Burnley survived a second-half battering to emerge with three points at the KC Stadium.

"There was a good mixture over the 90 minutes between fantastic play and using the ball wisely," Dyche said.

"We had the resilience and team belief in our shape to make sure we came away with a win. In the first half we possibly deserved to be 2-0 up at the break.

"They came out in the second half and threw caution to the wind, but I was pleased with how we absorbed it and how we were still dangerous on the break.

"The tactical side of the game is debated endlessly, but today we delivered our formation which made them question theirs.

"That's the first time Hull have failed to score here this season, and that's a good thing for us. We have been a bit unlucky over the past couple of games, but the performances have been there.

"The Championship is an unforgiving league. The games when you win 3-0 look after themselves, but in the nip and tuck games you need to show resolve, and we are building on that."
