The three points pushed the hosts seven points from the drop zone, while defeat for Dean Saunders' men left them needing a miracle to stay in the Championship.

Dyche, who endured a nervy final 25 minutes with his team reduced to 10 men after Michael Duff's dismissal, said: "I am very pleased. It was a very awkward game for both sides.

"There is a big expectation here at Wolves and we have our own expectations and I am pleased with the way that the side found the clarity of thought to play rather than get involved in a scrap.

"There were some very good individual performances and obviously I was very pleased tactically with how we managed the game out with 10 men. But I remember when I was playing that Manchester City fell in awkward times.

"So it has happened before. It is a really tough situation. The demand is at Wolves from the fans about what the club should be and that can sometimes affect players and performances and it is awkward for the home team at times.

"They have had the kind of season where even after a win the next one has been a nervy one and we knew that coming here and our game plan was to try and make the crowd nervous and hopefully make the opposition nervous."

ow are people still backing Arsenal for the title? It's like you're predicting the tide not to come in; Arsenal will finish third or fourth and make the quarter final of the Champions League. It was ever thus.

othing screams 'Panic!!' when your new manager brings Fellaini on as a sub for your star signing of the summer and within 5 minutes you concede the winner. I know it is only the first game in but I would seriously be sh1**ng myself I was a Man Utd supporter. This has the potential of being very nasty indeed.

n the words of Pete Townsend, meet the new boss, the same as the old boss. Though I would comment that it's 3 more points than we picked up in the same fixture last year, so that's a 100% improvement.
