With Danny Ings, who has 25 goals this season, sidelined for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury, it provided Ashley Barnes with an opportunity to start.

And he took the chance with both hands in this Sky Bet Championship game, scoring the opening goal with a header on 38 minutes.

Sam Vokes then netted his 21st goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 55th minute after he had been fouled by Dorian Dervite, before substitute Michael Kightly wrapped up the win at the end when his cross was deflected in.

"He's working with the group, he's new to it," Dyche said of Barnes, who signed from Brighton during the January transfer window.

"He's getting his chance now and I thought he delivered an all-round good performance.

"He's full of life, he wants to work for the team and he'll get more and more used to how we work.

"To get a goal is excellent. He knew the challenge in front of him when we brought him in.

"The main thing was getting someone in because we've had two strikers all season and with Ash coming in we've got three - and it just allows that bit of extra flexibility, other than tactical changes of course.

"We always knew it was important and although we had no real finance and knew we had to do something.

"We're not naive, we knew we had to affect it and we felt it was a better way to affect it by signing someone rather than taking someone on loan."

Jose Riga, the Charlton manager, praised his opposition for their clinical display, saying: "We knew already before the game that Burnley are a very efficient team.

"We played on Tuesday and they didn't and they were already good physically, so I think that we have to be more efficient - which isn't easy.

"Certainly we had the first chances during this game the first chances. But instead of scoring we conceded.

"It was already difficult to score against this team but we conceded and we knew at that moment it would be more difficult and we maybe had to change the way we play.

"We continued even in the last quarter to try to play more realistically, more direct - but, against this team, they were waiting for that."

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
