With the club preparing to step back up into the Premier League next season, squad restructuring will be required in order to ensure that they are competitive among the elite.

There will be no overhaul of the playing staff at Turf Moor, though, with Burnley having worked hard to piece together a successful side.

A greater emphasis is being placed on the recruitment of the right type of players and characters, rather than merely dipping into the market in pursuit of proven top flight performers.

Chief executive Lee Hoos believes that remains the most sensible approach, but is also aware of the need to add to a small squad which defied the odds to finish as runners-up in the Sky Bet Championship.

He said in the Lancashire Telegraph: "We're well underway with player identification.

"There have been a few meetings with various agents already but we never panicked last year, we made sure we got the right guys, we made sure we did our research on the guys we brought in.

"We knew the people we were bringing in were going to absolutely fit the mould of what we wanted to do.

"Fans said we had no ambition because we didn't sign anyone during the emergency loan window, but we didn't bring in anyone who wasn't going to fit with what we're trying to do because we didn't want to upset the applecart.

"We've got a good thing going here and we'll continue in the same vein next season as well."

The summer is not all about the acquisition of fresh faces, though, with it important to retain the services of those already at the club.

Top marksman Danny Ings and highly-rated full-back Kieran Tripper have been generating transfer gossip as they prepare to enter the final 12 months on their current contracts, but Hoos has revealed that efforts are being made to tie them down on fresh terms.

He added: "I have dialogue with them all the time. But I would never do a contract negotiation in a public forum."
