Laudrup delivered the first major piece of silverware in the club's history last season, sealed with a 5-0 thumping of Bradford in the final at Wembley.

That success brought with it European football, and City have already lit up the Europa League with an eye-catching win at Valencia.

Despite his side's new-found position in elite company, though, Laudrup is determined to mount a decent defence of the title - starting at Birmingham on Wednesday.

He said: "It's the first game of our cup defence and I think we all still remember last season, so for us it is something special.

"Everybody still remembers the feeling of standing there with the trophy after winning against Bradford, and maybe as much the two semi-final legs against Chelsea or the win at Liverpool.

"We know the cup competitions are possibilities for smaller clubs to have success, you only need a few wins and you are in the semi-final.

"Last year we needed four wins, this season we come in a stage later so we only need three wins to get to a semi-final, we have to try and do that again."

All Platini is doing is making billionaries pay measly fines, so he and his cronies can get rich. If a fool can pay 50 mil for David Luiz, he will happily pay some fine to UEFA. FFP has failed as for it to succeed UEFA had to take it...
