Etien Velikonja: Setting his sights on a place in Malkay Mackay's first-team

The 23-year-old Slovenian international, signed for £1million in the summer, has been restricted to less than half an hour of Championship football so far this season but is confident his first-team opportunity isn't far away.

The striker told the South Wales Echo: "I'm training good and I'm progressing. The club says that they are happy with me. I believe that I will soon get a chance.

"When I get it, I'll take it. It is not always the way you want it, but I do not lack self-confidence. I know that I will succeed.

"It is true that I have played less than I expected," he added. "I cannot be satisfied, but my position is not alarming yet."

The match also saw a return to action for experienced midfielder Stephen McPhail, after he picked up a hamstring injury in the Capital One Cup defeat to Northampton. Craig Conway, Joe Lewis and Fulham loanee Kerim Frei also featured.
