Malky Mackay: Captain proving his worth

The 30-year-old centre-back came under criticism - along with a number of other Bluebirds players - after the shock 5-4 defeat to Hudson's former club Charlton last week.

The defender responded in the best possible manner with a fine display capped by the 82nd minute winner - his 10th goal for Cardiff.

"He leads by example and scores important goals for our football club," Mackay told the Bluebirds' official website.

"I received questions querying Mark Hudson and his worth to the football club. You will not see his worth to the football club until he leaves the football club and that will not be under me. He has had 15 months under me where he has been exceptional both on and off the pitch."

Cardiff's perfect home record will come under scrutiny on Saturday when second-place Middlesbrough, a side one point and one place above the Bluebirds, make the long trip to South Wales.
