The Danish striker, who cost promoted Cardiff £8.5million upon arriving from FC Copenhagen, missed the club's opening day defeat to West Ham after sustaining an injury in training, which was feared would keep him out for up to three weeks.

However, manager Malky Mackay explained that the forward was omitted from the squad that travelled to Upton Park so as not to exacerbate the problem.

"Andreas joined in with training last Friday but wasn't match fit. He took an ankle knock in training two weeks ago and was nearly ready," Mackay said.

"If he damaged the ankle again he could have been out for four weeks. We're looking at the long-term picture and that's why we've waited another week.

"We are making sure he's OK. He'll be back in training this week and should be in the squad to face Manchester City."

Cardiff managed just one shot on target against West Ham, and despite winning the Championship last season, their top scorer managed just eight league goals.

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
