However, the Scot, who was controversially sacked by the Bluebirds last month following a long-standing dispute with club owner Vincent Tan, has warned Norwegian Solskjaer that managing in the Premier League is a "culture shock".

Solskjaer left Norwegian side Molde to join Cardiff earlier this month and oversaw an FA Cup win at Newcastle in his first match in charge.

"I think it's a great job for him, coming from Norwegian football into the Premier League and into the club that has got the structure it has," said Mackay.

"There's a lot of good staff that work at that football club.

"He's got a decent training ground, 30,000 people (who) want to come to the games every week and a team that are absolutely competitive and going to have a chance of staying up.

"I think he's a decent appointment because he's done well. He's been in the Premier League and he's done well in Norway."

But he added: "It's going to be different and there's a culture shock to it as well."

heyremind me of Utd's treble winning side. Swashbuckling and risk prone. We ha Jaap Stam to paper over the cracks at the back though. Not sure they have their Jaap yet.

he solution is to not feel sorry for any of Jabba, Gold or Sullivan. They're all deeply unpleasant and all deserve each other. If only West Ham would sign Barton and Suarez then no one would ever need to despise any other club.
