Solskjaer must a find a way to stop opponents who have won all 10 home games in the Premier League and are just one short of 100 goals in all competitions this season.

Manchester City are favourites for the title, while the Norwegian's old club Manchester United are 11 points behind leaders Arsenal in David Moyes' first season.

But Solskjaer said: "The situation in Manchester has not changed permanently. We are talking about last year's champions in United and they will be around the top of the league come May.

"The progress at City shows what money does to a football club - when you have got money to invest in the structure and the players. They have got owners who want to be successful."

Cardiff have already beaten Manuel Pellegrini's side once this season, though, and Solskjaer is not making the trip north in defeatist mood.

He said: "We are not daunted by the challenge, we are relishing it. When you go to places like the Etihad and Old Trafford you are going to be tested against some of the best players in the world, but we have got our own standards to adhere to.

"You need to ride your luck, but bigger surprises have happened in the world of football, so you have to go up there with the mindset of having a go and taking something from the game.

"We want to be a top 10 club so you have got to go to these places and take something out of the game. We are looking at how we can hurt them.

"They have got a fantastic record at home but it has got to end sometime."
