Medel joined Cardiff last summer from Sevilla, but the Chile international has been tipped to leave the club following relegation from the Premier League.

He impressed at the World Cup in Brazil, where Chile lost to the hosts on penalties in the last 16, and he has been linked with Inter Milan, Celta Vigo, Valencia and Besiktas.

The 26-year-old has suggested that he has options to move on from Cardiff and would be open to the prospect of moving to Italy.

“I remain a player of Cardiff, but now doors are open to play elsewhere and I hope that happens,” Medel is quoted by the media in Chile.

“Nothing has been said yet but I am wanted in Italy and that is a good possibility.”

Cardiff boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has previously intimated that he would not stand in the way of Medel moving and he is awaiting developments.

Solskjaer said: "He's shown in the World Cup how good a player he is, so we'll see what will happen."

Meanwhile, Medel is recovering from a thigh problem that has been troubling him, although he expects to be fit for the start of the new season.

“I am recovering slowly, I’m getting treatment and I hope to evolve well in about a month,” Medel added. “The injury is serious because it is a tear, but I think recovery is in about a month so I’ll be well for the season.

“For now I will have treatment in Chile, then when I go on vacation and I will continue the treatment outside.”

he thing is, footballers are role models, and children are influenced by them. I watched the Chelsea game with my 6 year old, and at school the next day she stamped on Emre Can.

et again Barcelona try to convince the world that they only play the most virtuous of football. I've never seen a team so willing and able to dish out lumps but feel so self-righteous that no opposition player should ever have the audacity to tackle them.

d love to see a United v Liverpool FA cup final. It would certainly fit the narrative. Obv I'd want the ending to be one of an O.G. and tears as he collects his runner-up medal.
