Lennon hopeful of Pukki deal

Neil Lennon is optimistic Celtic's bid for Teemu Pukki will not be derailed by an injury to the Schalke striker's team-mate Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

Celtic boss Lennon confirmed last week that the club are in talks to sign Pukki after an initial offer was rejected by Schalke.

Lennon watched the Finland international against Slovenia last week and he remains keen to sign the 23-year-old.

However, an injury to Huntelaar has raised doubts about Schalke's willingness to sell after the Netherlands international was ruled out for several weeks with a knee problem suffered in the weekend's 4-0 defeat by Wolfsburg.

Pukki featured as a substitute in that game, but Lennon hopes Huntelaar's injury will not impact on Celtic's bid to conclude a deal.

"I don't think it will have any bearing on him coming here or not," Lennon told reporters ahead of Celtic's UEFA Champions League tie against Shakhter Karagandy.

"We did make the offer before the Huntelaar injury so I imagine that wouldn't have helped things.

"I spoke to John Park (football development manager) late last night and he was working on a few players but no news today.

"I probably won't know until I get back from training tonight."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
